Lube Oil Filters

CLEARLY THE RIGHT CHOICE

Nelson/Winslow Lube Oil Filters
Nelson/Winslow lube oil filters and Western Filter Company provide your engine with contaminant protection unmatched by other systems.  No other filter media controls solids, lacquers and varnishes like the Nelson/Winslow depth filter.

Oxidation and Nitration
Today's engine manufacturers are aware of the problems due to oxidation and nitration of the engine lube oil; the formation of lacquers and varnishes.  This is expecially true of high speed, natural gas engines.  These contaminants, as well as the particulate contaminants in the oil, will severely shorten engine life unless removed.  Today's popular pleated media filters quickly plug when subjected to these contaminants causing bypass valves to open and exposing the engine components to unfiltered oil.
Pleated medias today do not remove moisture and water where the acids are concentrated.
The result:  1) short oil life, 2) short filter life, and most important, 3) short engine life.

Lube Oil Filter Types
Full-flow - 100% of the engine lube oil is filtered.

Bypass - used in conjunction with the full-flow filter, a percentage of the oil is filtered through the bypass filter
and sent back to the crankcase

Nelson/Winslow Full-Flow Filters
The Nelson/Winslow depth type full-flow lube oil filter has been installed and retrofitted on engines around the world to improve existing engine oil filtration.  In most cases, engine oil change intervals doubled or tripled.  Still today, standard engine oil filters only address particulate wear, while the Nelson/Winslow full-flow filter addresses both particulate and chemical wear.  As high as 40% of engine wear is caused by chemical contamination.

Nelson/Winslow Bypass Filters
Numerous tests have proven the benefits of adding a bypass filter to an engine.  Choosing the right bypass filter can remove particulate and chemical contaminants controlled by standard engine oil filters.

Nelson/Winslow Chemically Treated Bypass Filters
The Nelson/Winslow chemically treated bypass lube oil filter has protected many gas engines running on digester and landfill gas.  These engines quickly develop acids in the oil due to the sulfur and/or halogen chemicals, and water present in these fuels.  The chemically treated bypass filter element neutralizes these acids to prevent shortened oil life and premature engine failure common for engines running on these fuels.
