Pig Detectors
Pig Detectors are used to detect the passage of a pig. The two basic categories are intrusive and non-intrusive. The intrusive is attached
permanently to the pipe and is equipped with a probe that intrudes into the pipeline. When a pig passes, it trips the lever and actuates the detector.
The non-intrusive does not intrude in the pipeline. These units are either magnetic, transmitter/receiver type, or ultrasonic. They are mounted to pipe, but are mobile units and their location on pipe can be
moved. When a pig passes, the pig detector's sensor detects the pig and actuates the detector. Both types are equipped with some sort of signal to
alert pig passage. This can be a flag, light, horn, etc. They can also be equipped with electric signals to control operations such as operating valves, pumps,
compressors, etc. When quoting, we need to know which type is wanted, pressure rating, visual signal or electric, and anything else that customer may feel pertinent. |
